Peatlands
GSD works closely with experienced field surveyors, trained in forestry, woodland management and peat surveying, to provide comprehensive surveys of both afforested and non-afforested peat. Our surveys include depth and core sampling, vegetation surveys and yield class assessment of trees present.
To facilitate data collection GSD use mobile GIS and cloud based data transfer, to allow detailed and streamlined surveying, even in remote areas. In addition GSD designs and creates tailored projects using mobile GIS to collect data as the client requires. GSD creates high quality reports and bespoke data in consultation with clients.

Peat Surveys Across Wales
GSD successfully secured long term work for NRW to provide an assessment of peat bodies across the woodland estate in Wales. The work which requires field survey and use of GSD mobile applications and data assists NRW in identifying priority areas for peatland restoration.

Development of a Peatland Restoration Plan
GSD was awarded a Peatland Development Grant in 2023 by NRW to develop a realistic peatland restoration plan for a site near Machynlleth, Powys. Our work at GSD aims to contribute to the reversing of habitat loss in upland Wales and improving the condition of Welsh peatlands.
