GSD successfully secured long term work for NRW to provide an assessment of peat bodies across the woodland estate in Wales. The work which requires field survey and use of GSD mobile applications and data assists NRW in identifying priority areas for peatland restoration.

The initial desk-based analysis of the estate involved an initial analysis in close collaboration with NRW specialists of previously identified peat bodies in Wales. Our team of data analysts utilised their experience working across the client's estate on previous contract, as well as existing spatial data and high-resolution aerial imagery to assess the data.

The field surveys are carried out by our team of experienced surveyors who have worked with GSD for over five years. At each site, a standard methodology is applied to assess the existing local potential for peat restoration whereby vegetation, peat depth, and peat core survey data are all considered. GSD uses a mobile app to assist with the field work and data gathering using rugged internet-enabled tablet devices. This has enabled fast and accurate data capturing in the field with locations being accurately recorded using GPS as well as enabling error free data uploading and efficient data analysis.
